“Africa, we are still enslaved you know. This is a problem that affects every African. Even waking up this morning, I can’t even say if I slept well or whatever. My body is sore through, the beating was too much. The bitterness, the hatred, you know. Two handcuffs on someone that is not a criminal. They didn’t take me through the counter or whatever, they took me through the back, and the beating continued and everything

“Above all, I’m not angry, because two wrongs can not make a right. I’m not even interested in pressing charges. At this point, I want to thank God for my life.”

Faniran’s beating had been captured on his Insta stories where he stated that he wasn’t going to allow a South African policeman search his phone.

He said he would rather go with him to the police station than have his phone searched. He, however, said the policeman was free to search his car while he watched.
However, when another policeman came, he was manhandled and forcefully taken to the police station.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri, reacting to the incident said, “Still on the incident involving ex Bbn star, Tayo. He is out (of) police net. Our mission in Joburg took it up with the authorities. They claimed he was rude and shouted at them immediately he was stopped. No matter, the Police behaviour was wrong. We are trying to reach Tayo.”
